Abstract

|
|
The records with histologically proved endometrial hyperplasia and normal. Endometrium were reviewed retrospectively Fifty eight patients with endometrial hyperplasia and fifty nine patients with normal endometrium had pelvic ultrasound
examinations
available. Patients with endometrial hyperplasia had a mean endometrial thickness of 15.7mm (range 8mm-32mm) vs 7.5mm (range 2mm-16mm) in the control group of normal endoetrium. This difference in thickness was stastically significant
(p-value<0.01).
The specificity, sensitivity and most accuracy of endometrial thickness in the diagnosis of endometrial hyperplasia were 91.5%, 82.8% and 87.2%, respectively, when 10mm in postmenopausal group and 12mm in premenopausal group were taken as the
upper
limit of normal. Ultrasonographically demonstrable endometrial characteristics can differentiate endometnal hyperplasia from normal in a great majority of cases.
